Reading Schemes

Our Reading Award Scheme encourages the children to read to an adult on a regular basis. When an award has been achieved this is presented during an assembly so that  everyone can celebrate the child’s success.  Children can read any type of reading material (school reading books, books from home, newspapers, magazines, comics etc.) as long as an adult witnesses it and an entry is made in the Reading Diary.

When children start on the Trio, Quad, Pent, Hex, Trios, Quatre, Cinque and Six Awards if they have any trouble finding material to read the school has a stock of suitable books for both KS1 and KS2. Where a certain type of book has been stipulated the child may take more than a week to read this, especially if they wish to write their book review about it.

Reading Award x3 The first award is Bronze 3 and to get this a child must read 3 times a week for 3 weeks, after this a Bronze 3 certificate is awarded. There are 3 more cards to collect – Silver 3, Gold 3 and Platinum 3. All have the same reading criteria as Bronze 3, and when Platinum is awarded a small gift is also given. The whole of the x3 section should take 12 weeks.
